Women's Soccer Sinks Rollins with Early Offense, Strong Defense

Winter Park, Fla.  – A pair of first-half goals and stout defense led the Lynn University women's soccer team to a victory on the road on Wednesday night, as the Fighting Knights toppled the Tars of Rollins University 2-0 in a Sunshine State Conference matchup.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The Fighting Knights broke into the scoring column first in the 25th minute, when Valentina Pedretti beat the keeper one-on-one to give Lynn a 1-0 edge.
  • In the 41st minute, Donish Henry-Cole tallied her third goal of the season to double the lead to 2-0 when she collected a loose ball inside the box and ripped it home for the Blue and White. Felicia Silveira was credited with an assist on the play, her first as a Fighting Knight.
  • Alexa Downie's 12 saves were the most in a single game in her career and moved her into sole possession of fifth place on the Lynn all-team leaderboard for career saves with 168.
  • Rollins held a heavy shot advantage in the contest, outshooting the Fighting Knights by a tally of 22-7.
  • Lynn successfully defended each of the Tars' six corner opportunities en route to the shutout victory.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • With the win, the Blue and White picked up back-to-back victories in SSC action for the first time since 2012.
  • Lynn joins Nova Southeastern and Tampa as the only schools in the SSC with a 2-0 mark in conference play.
  • The shutout was Downie's third of the season, marking the third consecutive year the junior has registered at least three clean sheets.

Lynn returns to the pitch on Saturday at Bobby Campbell Stadium when it hosts Eckerd in an SSC contest. Kick-off is slated for 6 p.m.
