BOCA RATON, Fla. – An RBI single from Elizabeth Diaz snapped a tie in the bottom of the fifth and carried Lynn University's softball team to a 2-1 victory over Florida Southern in the opening game of the Sunshine State Conference series.  Francais Olexa tossed a complete game, Diaz went 1-for-2 and Mackenzie Wyatt added a key RBI earlier in the contest.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • Five Fighting Knights logged hits, led by Wyatt's 2-for-3 performance.
  • Kayla Sheffield went 1-for-2 with a double.
  • Karolina Flores was 1-for-3 with a double but was robbed of extra bases by Florida Southern center fielder Shannon Bell in the first inning.
  • Olexa was 1-for-3 at the plate but was better in the circle where she scattered five hits over seven innings, issuing one walk, allowing one run and fanning three batters.
  • Florida Southern's Kelli Gault, who tossed a no-hitter on Tuesday, was pulled after 4.1 innings of work with two walks, two batters hit and five hits allowed.  Aubrey Ehlers came on in relief in the fifth and gave up the eventual game-winning RBI to Diaz.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Diaz extended her hitting streak to eight games, which ties a team season-high.  Flores' hitting streak is now at seven games.
  • Olexa has reached base safely in 19 consecutive games while Victoria has reached in 14 straight.
  • Olexa has sole possession of sixth place of complete games in program history with 43.
  • She is also tied for third now with 31 career wins.
  • Sheffield moved into a tie for the conference lead with eight doubles.
  • Florida Southern's Shannon Bell (.468) and Olexa (.444) are third and fourth in the SSC in batting average.
