Fighting Knights defeat Tampa 2-1

Boca Raton, Florida - The Fighting Knights came into the day sitting tied for sixth in the SSC and in need of a big win, and a big win is just what they got. Behind goals from Dorthea Glorud and Savannah Jackson, Lynn took down Tampa 2-1 to pick up their third SSC win of the season.

STATS OF THE GAME:

  • The game was fast-paced from the opening whistle. In the fifth minute, the Spartans threatened, but Sofia Manner was able to make an incredible diving save to keep the game knotted at 0-0.
  • Tampa's Elena Barr got the scoring started in the 39th minute when she was assisted by Michelle Kanaskie for her fourth goal of the season. 
  • Glorud wasted no time in tying the score at 1-1. Her second goal of the season was scored less than one minute after Barr's and sent the Fighting Knights into the break tied at 1-1. Anniina Sankoh was credited with the assist on the goal.
  • Savannah Jackson broke the tie in the 53rd minute when she broke away from the defense to put a perfect finish into the back of the net. It was her fourth goal of the season.
  • In the 69th minute, Tampa looked destined to tie the game when Jackie Morris blasted a shot to the upper left corner of the net. However, it hit the inside of the post and bounced away before being cleared by the Fighting Knights' defense.
  • The Spartans had a few more opportunities, but they weren't able to get past Manner who ended the game with five saves.
  • The Fighting Knights were outshot 12-9, but Lynn put eight shots on goal compared to just six for Tampa.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:

  • The win temporarily moves Lynn into sixth place in the conference standings with three SSC games remaining. Six teams make the SSC tournament, so all three of Lynn's remaining conference games will be huge for standings purposes.

UP NEXT:

The Fighting Knights will play at home against Atlantis University on Wednesday, Oct. 20 at 4 p.m. Their next conference game will be at Embry-Riddle on Oct. 23 at 7 p.m.
