ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Graduate Monica Mazzoleni smacked 13 kills and senior Emily Edwards handed out 41 assists as the Lynn University volleyball team dropped a road match at Eckerd, 3-1, Friday evening.
The loss drops the Fighting Knights to 16-4 overall on the season and 8-3 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn fell behind 2-0 after dropping the first two sets 25-17 and 25-19 before taking game three 25-16. The Tritons closed the evening and the match by taking the fourth set 25-16
- In the first set, Eckerd used three, 3-0 runs to earn the win. Mazzoleni had a kill that pulled Lynn to within one, 12-11, but two 3-0 spurts pushed the host lead to 21-14. The Tritons closed the first set with another 3-0 run for the win.
- The Fighting Knights trailed by as many as five in the second set before they collected a 4-0 scoring jolt that tied things at 15-15. Eckerd answered with a 7-1 run to take control for the win
- Senior Nadia Lindner smacked a pair of early kills as Lynn surged to a 7-3 cushion in the third game.
- Mazzoleni posted three-straight kills as the Fighting Knights pushed their lead to 14-9
- A 4-0 run and late kill from Lindner earned Lynn the game three win
- The two squads traded 6-0 runs early in the fourth set before Eckerd posted a 4-0 spurt for an 11-7 lead and later collected a 5-0 jolt for a 20-13 lead. Two late kills handed the hosts a 25-16 win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Mazzoleni's 13 kills came with a .387 hitting percentage and she has hit over .350 on the season in nine matches
- Lindner was second on the team with 10 kills, while senior Paige Barash had nine kills and 13 digs
- Edwards had 41 assists, her eighth match with 40 or more assists
- Sophomore Isabella Gentile had nine digs
