Men tie season-high in win over Tampa

BOCA RATON, Fla. – After a rather mundane first half, Lynn University and Tampa combined for five goals in the second 45 minutes of action and the Fighting Knights emerged with a 3-2 win over the Spartans in a key SSC match.

The three goals tie a season-high for the men as they improve to 5-3-5 overall and 5-2-2 in the league. Lynn currently sits in second place in the league standings with a week to go in the regular season. The Fighting Knights haven't suffered a loss in over a month and are 5-0-2 in their last seven conference games.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Each team registered just one shot in the opening half, but Lynn held a 7-4 edge in shots in the second stanza
- The Fighting Knights scored on their first opportunity of the second stanza when the Spartans were whistled for a foul inside the 18
- Senior Michael Knoetzinger was awarded the penalty kick and he buried the shot in the right side of the net past a diving Adam Forster for a 1-0 cushion just 46 seconds in the second half
- It was his fourth penalty kick goal of the season and second in as many games
- Knoetzinger had a hand in Lynn's second goal of the evening as he hit a pass up the field to a charging Patrick O'Halloran who maneuvered through the defense and around the keeper for a goal at 54:33
- O'Halloran scored again less than three minutes later when he found the back of the net off a pass from graduate Kyle Patton as Lynn quickly led 3-0
- Omar Thali put the Spartans on the board in the 76th minute when he scored on a PK that cut into the deficit
- O'Halloran tried to complete the hat trick in the 82nd minute but his shot was saved by a diving Forster
- Till Neumann brought the scoring to a close in the 87th minute when he scored an unassisted tally for Tampa
- Freshman Luca Clavero picked up the win in net for the Fighting Knights stopping two shots and playing the full 90 minutes
