BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University volleyball team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over No. 16 Barry in front of a packed house at the de Hoernle Sports & Cultural Center, Tuesday in a key Sunshine State Conference matchup between the two schools.
In an evening full of stories and headlines, the Fighting Knights shook off two weekend losses with their second dominating performance of Barry this season. The Buccaneers have just two conference losses, both to Lynn, and sit atop the conference standings.
However, Barry's record and national ranking did little to slow down the Fighting Knights as they collected the win behind scores of 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22. Lynn has won its last six matches at home and all six have come via shutout.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The three-set match featured 23 ties and eight lead changes
- Lynn held a 46-29 edge in kills, a 43-26 lead in assists and posted 53 digs. The Fighting Knights overcame 11 service errors and 20 attack errors
- Lynn posted a 3-0 run in set one for an 11-8 lead following kills from sophomore
Aline Olegario and graduate
Nikolija Katanic
- Barry rebounded to lead 19-18 late in the set before Lynn slowly pulled away for the win

Monica Mazzoleni smacked a kill for a 23-22 lead and senior
Nadia Lindner smacked back-to-back kills for the 25-23 win
- Game two featured just two ties and two lead changes and the Buccaneers used a 4-0 scoring jolt for a 14-8 just prior to the midway point of the set. Barry later extended its lead to 20-13
- The Fighting Knights stormed back by scoring 12 of the final 14 points for the win
- A 4-0 run pulled the hosts to within 20-17 and a 3-0 spurt made the score 21-20 in favor of Barry
- The Buccaneers smacked a kill for their 22
nd point before Lynn rattled off the final five points for the win. Lindner, Olegario and senior
Paige Barash each posted a kill during the 5-0 rally
- The third set featured another 11 ties and four lead changes
- Lynn collected a 5-1 run in the middle of the set for a 13-10 lead, but Barry battled back to tie the set at 19-19 and 20-20
- Lynn took advantage of three late errors from Barry while Lindner and Mazzoleni smacked kills to complete the 3-0 sweep
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Olegario had a near perfect stat sheet as she smacked eight kills on 11 attempts without an error (.727 hitting percentage). She also added three blocks and a dig
- Lindner led the way with 12 kills and 10 digs, Barash finished with six kills and 10 digs, while Katanic had six kills
- Black led both teams with 12 digs

Emily Edwards handed out 39 assists with seven digs and five kills
EVENING EXTRA:
- Between sets two and three, the Lynn University department of athletics honored senior swimmer Luna Mertins by unveiling her national championship banner in the rafters of the arena after she became Lynn's 11
th individual national champion last winter.
