Volleyball collects third-straight shutout at home

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University volleyball team cruised to its third-consecutive home shutout on Friday night with a 3-0 win over visiting Rollins.
 
The Fighting Knights won by scores of 25-13, 25-15 and 25-17 as they improved their overall record to 11-3 and their SSC slate to 6-2. They currently sit in third place in the league standings.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn hit .313 in the three matches and held the Tars (4-12, 2-6 SSC) to a .031 hitting percentage
- The Fighting Knights have hit above .300 in each match of the current three-game home win streak
- The hosts held a decisive edge in kills (43-24), assists (38-20) and digs (43-31) and finished with a season-best 12 blocks
- Lynn dominated the opening set by holdings the Tars to just 13 points
- Lynn took the set one win by posting a 5-0 run and two 4-0 scoring outbursts over the middle of the game for the 25-13 win
- Rollins held an 8-7 lead in set two before Lynn rebounded with a 7-2 run for a 14-10 cushion
- Graduate student Nikolija Katanic opened the scoring run with a kill, while graduate Monica Mazzoleni added two kills
- The Fighting Knights sealed the 25-15 game-two win by collecting a 6-1 run over the final seven points. Katanic continued her stellar effort in game two with three kills inside Lynn's final six points
- Game three was a back-and-forth affair with neither team leading by more than three until the Fighting Knights collected six-consecutive points for a 17-11 lead
- A 6-2 run increased Lynn's lead to 23-14 and Katanic smacked her final kill of the night to close the match with a 25-17 win in game three
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT NUMBERS:
- Katanic finished with seven kills, while hitting .417. Sophomore Aline Olegario hit .545 with six kills, while Mazzoleni hit .357 with six kills and five blocks
- Senior Paige Barash led the attack with 12 kills, to go along with seven digs
- Senior Emily Edwards dished out 29 assists with seven digs and four kills
- Graduate Marin Black had 12 digs
