Fighting Knights dominate in home opener

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Graduate student Jada Marone scored 13 points and the Lynn women's basketball team used a strong second half to dominate Lincoln (Mo.), 65-42, Monday afternoon. 
 
Lynn improves its record to 3-1 overall after outscoring the Tigers in the second half 40-22. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 

- Lynn led from the opening tip to the final horn and the game was never tied 
- The Fighting Knights shot 65.2 percent from the floor in the second half 
- The Fighting Knights opened up the scoring two minutes into the first with a fast break layup from Morone. She then sank the free throw to complete the three-point play
- Freshman Emilie Black pushed the lead to 10 (16-6) late in the first with a layup in the paint, assisted by Rachel Romich
- Niyah Johnson scored a last second shot for Lincoln to tighten the score at 16-8 to end the first quarter 
- The Fighting Knights shot 44% in the first quarter and were 1-for-3 from beyond the arc 
- Graduate student Loie Webb opened the second quarter for the Fighting Knights with a fast-break layup opening the lead back up to 10 
- Le'Yanna McGinnis brought the Tigers within three (23-20)  following a jumper from 10 feet out 
- Sophomore Makayla Hemingway hit a layup with less than a minute remaining in the half as Lynn led 25-20 at the break
- The third quarter was the turning point for the Fighting Knights as they outscored Lincoln 24-14 
- The team shot 82% from the field in the third and led by as much as 19 points (45-26) following a three-pointer from graduate Meghan Cramb 
- A three pointer from Webb with 4:37 left in the fourth gave the Knights a 21-point lead at 61-40 
- Sophomore Danielle Montelbano sank two late free throws to sset the final at 65-42

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Marone contributed four assists, three rebounds and two steals to go along with her 13 points
- Webb and Romich each added nine points. They handed out six and four assists, respectively
- Sophomore Ella Fiore scored nine points and grabbed a team-best six boards

- Lynn plays Kentucky Wesleyan at Barry University in Miami Shores on Friday at 2:00 pm
