MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Graduate student
Jada Marone hit a layup with four seconds left in overtime to lift the Lynn University women's basketball team to a 73-71 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan in the first game of the Barry University Classic, Saturday afternoon.
The Fighting Knights trailed by 13 points in the third quarter before rallying for the victory. The win improves their overall record to 4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game featured 15 lead changes and 11 ties
- Lynn shot 48 percent from the field and had three players score in double figures
- The Panthers (2-3) led 34-28 at halftime and quickly pushed their lead to 13 on a three-pointer with 7:24 showing in the third quarter
- From that point on, the ballgame belonged to the Fighting Knights
- Lynn collected a quick 7-0 run that cut the deficit to six, 41-35, just three minutes later

Ella Fiore scored the first five points of that 7-0 spurt for the Fighting Knights

Makayla Hemingway hit a three-pointer at 2:55 as Lynn trailed by just four 45-41
- Hemingway found Fiore for a layup with 1:40 to play in the third as Lynn surged to a one-point lead, 46-45
- Kentucky Wesleyan knocked down a three-pointer with 13 seconds left as it led 53-50 as the game headed to the fourth
- KWC hit a layup to open the fourth quarter for a five-point cushion, 55-50
- Marone hit a layup and two free throws to tie the game at 55 with 5:33 to play
- Marone converted a traditional three-point play with 2:51 showing as Lynn led 58-57
- The Panthers extended their lead back to three points twice inside the final 30 seconds
- Lynn called a timeout with 11 seconds to show in regulation and after the break, Hemingway knocked down a three-pointer with six seconds left to send the game into OT
- Kentucky Wesleyan refused to back down and pushed its lead back to six points inside the first minute of extra time
- Hemingway answered again for the Fighting Knights with a three-pointer that cut the deficit to 69-66 at 3:40
- Fiore hit a layup to tie the game at 69-69 with 2:18 to play
- The Panthers hit a layup for a 71-69 lead with 1:35 to play
- Marone calmly hit two foul shots with 1:31 showing to tie the contest (71-71) for the final time
- Marone sent Lynn home a winner with a layup with four seconds left
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Fiore poured in a career-high 19 points on 9-of-11 shooting with six rebounds
- Marone added 15 points behind 7-of-8 free throws with five rebounds
- Hemingway scored 14 points with four three-pointers and seven rebounds
