Kapic double-double helps Lynn past Johnson

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Freshman Nordin Kapic posted his third-consecutive double-double to help Lynn to an 88-70 win over Johnson University (Fla.) on the second and final day of the Florida Tech Winter Classic, Monday afternoon.
 
The win lifts the Fighting Knights to 2-7 overall on the season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn outscored the Suns in both halves in a game that featured five ties and four lead changes
- The Fighting Knights shot 48.5 percent (33-of-68) from the field and connected on 19-of-26 free throws (73.1%)
- Lynn emerged from a 13-13 tie on a Kapic jumper at 14:01 in the first half and led from that point forward
- Sophomore Montez Leath connected on a three-pointer with 8:53 in the first as Lynn's lead hit 12, 30-18
- The Fighting Knights increased their lead to 15 on two occasions, the second coming on a freshman Jimel Lane jumper with 5:54 left
- The Suns narrowed their deficit to 40-34 on a three-pointer at 2:42
- Freshman Jalen Gilmore hit a layup at 1:56 and later added a free throw with 1:06 left to hand the Fighting Knights a 47-36 lead at intermission
- The Suns trimmed their deficit to single digits in the first two minutes of the second half, but Lynn controlled the game from there
- A quick scoring jolt put Lynn ahead by 15, 54-39 with a jumper from Lane at 16:10
- Junior Jamison Evans hit a fastbreak layup at 11:50 as the Fighting Knights led 65-48
- Graduate student Jahmel Meyers hit a three-pointer with 9:11 left for a 74-55 lead
- Meyers hit a layup with 4:23 to play and Lane hit a foul shot at 3:54 as the Fighting Knights took a game-high 25-point lead, 84-59
- Sophomore Mason Schwaber and freshman Ryan Weeks each made layups in the closing minutes to help set the final at 88-70
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Five players scored in double figures
- Kapic scored 21 and snared 14 rebounds
- Gilmore scored 14 points with nine assists
- In his second game with Lynn, Meyers contributed a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds
- Lane added 13 points and Evans scored 10
