Lynn women dominate Shaw in non-conference victory

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Graduate student Jada Marone came off the bench to score 17 points and led four Lynn women's basketball players in double figures as the Fighting Knights closed the 2022 portion of its non-conference schedule with a dominating 76-59 win over Shaw, Monday.
 
Lynn outscored the Bears 22-6 in the first quarter and cruised to its ninth win of the season (9-3).
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn led from the opening tip to the final horn while shooting 47.9 percent (23-of-48) from the floor
- The Fighting Knights also knocked down six three-pointers and finished 24-of-32 (75.0%) from the foul line
- Lynn outscored Shaw 34-22 in points from the bench behind Marone's 17
- Lynn also outscored the visitors 32-18 in points in the paint
- The first quarter proved to be the difference as the Fighting Knights outscored Shaw 22-6
- Graduate student Meghan Cramb opened the game with a three-pointer and Lynn used a 10-0 run to lead 15-2 with 4:41 showing on the clock
- Sophomore Kennedi Philson hit a layup with 32 seconds left and sophomore Danielle Montelbano closed the quarter with a jumper for a 22-6 lead
- Marone hit two free throws in the middle of the second quarter as the Fighting Knights led by 17, 31-14
- Marone hit a three with 3:58 left as Lynn led by 18, 34-16. Marone closed the half with a free throw as Lynn took a 42-26 advantage into the break
- Sophomore Ella Fiore hit two foul shots with 7:47 showing in the third as the Fighting Knights led by 17, 48-30
- Graduate Loie Webb and sophomore Rachel Romich each hit three-pointers late in the third as the hosts led 60-44 after three quarters
- The Bears cut their deficit to single digits, 60-51, just over two minutes into the fourth quarter
- Lynn used the next four minutes to increase its lead to 20, 73-53 when Marone hit a layup with 2:58 to play
-  Sophomore Makayla Hemingway closed the ballgame with a three-pointer with 42 seconds left to set the final at 76-59
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Marone finished 12-of-16 at the free throw line along with six rebounds
- Cramb scored 12 points with two three-pointers
- Romich added 11 points and Hemingway scored 10

- The Fighting Knights return to SSC action on Thursday, Dec. 29 at Florida Southern at 5:30 pm
