Fighting Knights drop doubleheader vs PBA

Boca Raton, Florida – After losing the first game to PBA on Friday, the Fighting Knights went into today 0-1 in the SSC and are now 0-3 in the SSC. HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):

  • In the top of the first inning, the Sailfish got up early with a 4-0 lead. They scored on an error, a groundout, a single to left field, and then on a wild pitch.
  • Going into the second, the Sailfish scored another run to go up 5-0 on a solo shot to right center.
  • In the bottom of the second, Monique Poitevin hit a double to start the inning. After she advanced to third on a wild pitch, Brittney Davis drove her in on a sac-fly to go down 5-1.
  • PBA matched Lynn's sac-fly and hit one of their own to extend their lead to 6-1 in the top of the third.
  • Morgan Simpson hit a single and recorded a steal in the bottom of the inning. She would score for Lynn as Mia Veliz hit a double to center for PBA to be ahead 6-2.
  • PBA extended their lead in the top of the fourth to go up 10-2.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Fighting Knights were able to add some runs back. After loading the bases, Bailey Fernandez singled to left field driving in Lexi Butler who walked to start the inning.
  • Danielle Pasquariello added an RBI on a sac-fly driving in Poitevin, who also walked.
  • With the bases loaded again, Aymee Godmaire walked to drive in Ashley Davis who was hit by a pitch, to go down 10-5.
  • Simpson went 2-2 with a run and a stolen base.
  • Pasquariello went 1-1 with a double and an RBI.
  • Poitevin went 1-3 with a double and two runs.
  • Fernandez went 1-4 with an RBI.
  • Veliz went 1-5 with an RBI and a double.
  • As a team, Lynn had five runs on six hits and seven walks.
  • Josey Sumpter got her first loss on the season giving up eight runs, four of which were earned in three innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):

  • In the first inning, PBA got an early lead again, going up 1-0, but Lynn quickly tied it and took the lead.
  • In the bottom, Aryana Galioto walked and then stole second. Taylor Scala singled and advanced herself and Galioto. Fernandez singled to left field driving in both batters, taking the lead 2-1.
  • PBA tied it in the top of the fourth 2-2, but Lynn took the lead right back.
  • After Faith Miller hit a hard single to center field, Karlie Sweiderk drove her in on an error to go up 3-2.
  • In the top of the fifth, the Sailfish took the lead back, 5-3. A couple of lucky wild pitches helped out their hitters, as well as a ball that looked caught, but ruled off the wall.
  • In the bottom of the sixth down by two, the Fighting Knights failed to capitalize with bases loaded.
  • PBA extended their lead further in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to left field, going up 6-3.
  • In the bottom of the seventh inning, after Brittney Davis walked, Miller hit a hard double to left field, advancing Davis to third.
  • Sweiderk reached on an error in her at-bat, driving in Davis.
  • Simpson hit a liner to third base, driving in Miller and advancing Sweiderk to second.
  • Unfortunately, after only being down three, a flyout would end the game just short of a comeback to lose by one.
  • Davis went 2-3 with a double and a run.
  • Miller went 2-4 with a double and two runs.
  • Fernandez went 1-3 with two RBIs.
  • Simpson went 2-4 with an RBI and a stolen base.
  • Sweiderk went 1-4 with an RBI.
  • Scala went 1-4 with a run.
  • Madison Prickett pitched a complete game, but got the loss.
