No. 4 Fighting Knights defeat Eagles; will play Tampa in SSC Quarterfinals

Boca Raton, Florida - The Fighting Knights wrapped up the number four seed in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament with their 4-1 victory over national No. 26 Embry-Riddle.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After dropping third doubles, the Fighting Knights picked up big wins in first and second doubles to take the doubles point. 
  • Giorgia Pigato and Zofia Podbiol won second doubles 6-4 to give Lynn momentum, then the 10th-ranked duo in the nation of Karyna Bihel and Jacqueline Wagner won first doubles 7-6 (9-7) to give Lynn the 1-0 lead.
  • Wagner picked up an impressive 6-3, 6-1 victory over national No. 7 Itaxso Blanco to give Lynn a 2-0 lead.
  • No. 27 Pigato put Lynn within one point of clinching when she won third singles by a score of 6-3, 6-4.
  • The Eagles would take second singles to pick up their first point of the day.
  • Bihel would then seal the match for the Fighting Knights by winning 6-2, 6-2 in fourth singles.
  • The remaining matches were not completed due to Lynn having already won the match. Barbora Cibakova was winning fifth singles 6-0, 3-1 at the time it was called.

UP NEXT
The Fighting Knights earned the No. 4 seed in the SSC Tournament, which begins on Friday. In the first round, Lynn will face No. 5 Tampa. Earlier this season, the two played at Tampa and Lynn won 5-2. The tournament will be held in Bradenton, Florida from Apr. 22-24.
