Fighting Knights lose thriller to No. 3 Lions

Boca Raton, Florida - In a match that took two days to complete, the Fighting Knights fell 4-3 at the hands of the No. 3 ranked team in the nation. It was Lynn's first conference loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Fighting Knights got off to a hot start, picking up two huge doubles wins to take the doubles point. The 43rd-ranked pair of Will Kirkman and Ignacio Martinez was able to defeat the No. 3 duo in the nation by a score of 6-2. Diego Gonzalez and Lucca Baptista followed it up with a win over the No. 34 team in the country to give Lynn a 1-0 lead heading into singles.
  • In singles, Martinez continued his solid play, picking up a three-set victory over national No. 25 Victor Thiel.
  • In first singles, Gonzalez fell to the fifth-ranked player in the country, as the Lions cut the lead to 2-1.
  • No. 23 Baptista took down national No. 52 Nicolas Bacella in three sets to put Lynn within one point of victory.
  • Rayane Alami fell in straight sets in fourth singles.
  • In fifth singles, Gianmarco Amatiste picked up a win in the first set but dropped the final two.
  • With the match tied, all eyes turned to sixth singles. Gabriele Felline picked up the win in the first set, then dropped the second set 6-2. Rain postponed the match for the remainder of Saturday.
  • On Sunday morning, Felline played his third set, falling 6-3.

UP NEXT
The Fighting Knights will travel to Rollins to take on the Tars on Wednesday, Apr. 6 at 3 p.m.
