Fighting Knights split doubleheader vs Florida National

Boca Raton, Florida - The Fighting Knights are back at home after their three-game series vs Florida Tech. After losing the first game, the Fighting Knights brought the bats for game two and snapped a ten-game losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):

  • Faith Miller opened the game for the Fighting Knights. She allowed one run in the one inning she played and had two strikeouts.
  • The Fighting Knights tied the game at one in the bottom of the third. Taylor Scala scored after she walked as a result of Janelle Dominguez reaching on an error.
  • Florida National struck again in the top of the fifth to go up 2-1 off of a double. Earlier in the inning, the Fighting Knights made a great fielder's choice play to get the runner out at home.
  • Lynn took the lead in the bottom of the fifth to go up 3-2. After Scala got on from a single down the left-field line, Dominguez crushed a homer to left-center for Lynn.
  • Florida National retook the lead in the top of the seventh and won 5-3.
  • Dominguez went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored.
  • Scala went 1-3 with two runs and a walk. She also had a stolen base.
  • Josey Sumpter gave up two earned runs on seven hits in six IP. She also had four Ks. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):

  • The Fighting Knights scored first in game two. Scala scored again this afternoon, this time coming from a sac-bunt from Aymee Godmaire. Lynn leading 1-0.
  • Lynn went up 2-0 in the second inning after Karlie Sweiderk scored. After she walked, Godmaire again reached the bag for an RBI.
  • In the bottom of the third the Fighting Knights really turned it on. With Miller hitting a single and stealing second to start the inning, Madison Prickett walked, a single from Sweiderk, and a single from Haley Weiss, an RBI double from Scala drove in three runs for a 5-0 lead.
  • The very next at-bat for Lynn, Godmaire tacked on another RBI. Her double to left field drove in Scala to go up 6-0 after three.
  • Following the last inning, the Fighting Knights added four more runs in the fourth. After Bailey Fernandez and Miller singled, Monique Poitevin hit an RBI single to start the scoring off.
  • An RBI single to center field by Sweiderk drove in Miller for another run.
  • Poitevin would touch home for Lynn after Scala reached on an error. The final run for Lynn came off of a double steal with Sweiderk taking home.
  • Scala went 2-3 with three RBIs and two runs. She also had two stolen bases.
  • Godmaire went 1-3 with three RBIs.
  • Sweiderk went 2-2 with an RBI and three runs. She also had a walk.
  • Poitevin went 1-2 with an RBI and a run. She also had a walk.
  • Miller went 3-3 with a run scored.
  • Weiss went 2-3 with a run.
  • Prickett who got the win pitched four innings in which she had two Ks and no runs scored on two hits. She also went 1-2 batting with a run.
  • Haley Fardanesh who came in relief pitched one inning and had a strikeout.

The Fighting Knights play again at Embry-Riddle in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 9th, at 4 P.M.
