Mendoza saves 12; Lynn falls at Mississippi College

CLINTON, Miss. – The Lynn University women's soccer team traveled to Mississippi College for its first road trip of the season and suffered a 3-0 loss to the Choctows, Friday afternoon.
 
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:
Score: Mississippi 3, Lynn 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Choctows scored first in the 16th minute when Avery Hederman converted a penalty kick for a 1-0 lead
- Lynn had a chance to even the match four minutes later with its own penalty kick, but the attempt sailed wide of the net
- Erin Hederman scored Mississippi's second goal at 28:26 when she found the net off a feed from sister Avery
- Lynn had several opportunities late in the opening half to score with shots from graduate Annina Sankoh, freshman Katja Orschmann and graduate Jessica Newton, but all three attempts were saved by MC keeper Anna Wes Driskell
- Fighting Knight senior keeper Denise Mendoza opened the second stanza with five saves over the first 15 minutes of action
- Mendoza notched additional saves in the 77th and 88th minutes
- Kathryn Knuth set the final score at 3-0 for Mississippi with a goal at 74:03
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT NOTES
- Sankoh, Newton along with sophomore Talorie Crafton led the way with two shots each
- Mendoza finished the game with a career-best 12 saves
 
UP NEXT:
The Fighting Knights will remain in Mississippi and will face Delta State on Sunday at 12:00 pm.
