Fighting Knights lose at Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. – Freshman Nordin Kapic and junior Braxton Bartlett each scored in double figures as the Lynn University men's basketball team dropped a road Sunshine State Conference game to Tampa, 83-60, Saturday.
 
The Fighting Knights fall to 4-14 on the season and 2-11 in the league.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Nine different players scored for the Fighting Knights on the afternoon
- The lead changed hands twice and the game was tied 10 times, all in the first half of the play
- Lynn shot 16-of-31 (51.6%) in the opening half with four three-pointers
- Freshman Jimel Lane opened the scoring with an early layup for a 2-0 Lynn advantage
- Two Kapic free throws and a three-pointer handed Lynn a 14-8 lead at 15:21
- Kapic hit a layup at 14:59 as Lynn grabbed its largest lead of the game at 16-8
- Freshman Esteban Lluberes hit a fastbreak layup and graduate student Jahmel Meyers knocked down a jumper at 9:51 as Lynn held a 23-16 edge
- The Spartans collected an 11-4 run to knot the game at 29 at 7:07
- Bartlett hit a three-pointer at 4:17 and another at 3:08 as the Fighting Knights led 39-35
- Tampa closed the opening half on a 7-0 run for a 42-39 lead at halftime
- Lane hit a jumper early in the second half as Lynn trailed 45-41
- The Spartans extended their lead to 10 inside the opening five minutes of the second half and pushed it to 67-52 at 12:04
- Tampa led by 18 with 8:01 to play and pushed their lead to over 20 points in the closing minutes
- Tampa outscored Lynn 41-21 in the second half
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Kapic paced Lynn with 17 points and nine rebounds
- Bartlett finished with a career-high 12 points on 4-of-5 three-pointers
- Lane added eight points and seven rebounds
- Freshman Jalen Gilmore scored six points and led both teams with six assists
