TAMPA, Fla. - Graduate student Jada Marone and sophomore Kennedi Philson each posted double-digit points in a 58-53 loss to Tampa on Saturday afternoon. The tightly played contest featured 13 lead changes, including six in the fourth quarter.
Lynn now sits at 14-7 overall and 7-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights shot 31% (4-for-13) from the field in the first quarter
- Tampa's Melijah Sullivan scored seven of her 16 points in the first quarter
- A layup by sophomore Danielle Montelbano cut the Tampa lead to 14-10 to end the opening frame
- Graduate student Marianna Klavina's three-point play with 4:44 left in the second quarter cut the Tampa lead to one, 18-17
- Graduate student Loie Webb then tied the game at 20 with a three-pointer
- Marone's free throw gave Lynn a 21-20 lead, but Tampa made two jumpers to lead by three at halftime
- Lynn had eight different players score in the first half
- The Fighting Knights forced nine turnovers in the first half while committing just five
- Early in the third quarter, Tampa extended the lead to seven, 31-24, on an Audrey Ramsey three-pointer
- A 6-0 run concluded with a Philson jumper to give Lynn a 32-31 lead
- The fourth quarter began with two Marone layups to give the Fighting Knights a 40-37 lead
- Tampa went on a 7-0 run to take a 44-40 lead with 6:41 left in the game
- Led by Philson, Lynn countered with a 9-2 run to lead by three, 49-46, with 3:49 remaining
- Marone hit a jumper with 1:41 left to once again put the Fighting Knights ahead, 53-52
- Tampa scored the final six points of the game at the free throw line
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Sophomore Ella Fiore grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, including five offensive boards
- Kostic dished out a game-high five assists and is averaging 5.6 assists per game over her last seven contests
- Kostic was a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and is shooting 87% (13-for-15) over her last five games
- Graduate student Meghan Cramb went 2-for-4 from three-point range and is shooting 43% from deep this season
- Montelbano posted a game-high three steals, her second three-steal game over her last four contests
- Marone went 4-for-5 in the fourth quarter, scoring eight of her 11 points
