BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn women's basketball team shot 51% from the field while holding Embry-Riddle to 31% from the floor in a 54-39 win on Wednesday. The Fighting Knights were led by sophomore Ella Fiore's 11 points and graduate student Jada Marone's 10 points.
Lynn now sits at 15-7 overall and 8-6 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Fiore made two quick baskets as Lynn took an early 6-2 lead
- An assist and two baskets by Keturah Balabyekkubo helped Embry-Riddle go on a 7-0 run and take a 9-6 lead
- Sophomore Kennedi Philson blocked a shot on defense and made a layup at the other end to give the Fighting Knights a 12-9 lead to end the first quarter
- Embry-Riddle's Madyson Jean-Louis made a three to tie the game, 14-14, with 8:20 left in the second
- A Philson jumper on the next possession gave Lynn a lead they would never relinquish
- Lynn went on a 13-0 run to go up 27-14, with the final seven points scored by Marone
- Embry-Riddle was held to just seven points in the second quarter as Lynn led 28-16 at halftime
- The Eagles cut the lead to eight on a Jean-Louis jumper half-way through the third quarter
- A layup by sophomore Rachel Romich pushed the Lynn lead back to double digits, 32-22, with 2:56 left in the third
- Graduate student Loie Webb hit a three-pointer to give the Fighting Knights a 42-26 lead early in the fourth quarter
- Lynn held its largest lead at 18 after sophomore Danielle Montelbano's basket made the score 54-36 with 1:04 remaining
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- The Lynn bench outscored Embry-Riddle, 21-2
- The Fighting Knights held their opponent to four field goals or fewer in each quarter
- Graduate student Marianna Klavina had a team-high two steals, her sixth multi-steal game of the season
- Fiore made her lone three-point attempt and is shooting 55% from deep this season (16-for-29)
- Ten different Fighting Knights scored on the night
- This was the second time this season Lynn has allowed fewer than 40 points in a game (also Dec. 10 vs. Thomas, 37)
