BOCA RATON, Fla. – Junior
Maria Cecilia Pinho smacked 15 kills and graduate student
Emily Edwards posted a double-double to pace Lynn University to a 3-1 win over Nova Southeastern, Tuesday at the de Hoernle Sports Center. The Fighting Knights dropped the first set 25-15, but rebounded to hit .287 in the final three sets to post wins of 25-23, 25-19 and 25-19.
Lynn is now 22-7 overall and 13-5 in the Sunshine State Conference, while the Sharks fall to 18-9 overall and 11-7 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Despite the win, Lynn trailed Nova in points (69-63), kills (53-51), aces (6-3), blocks (10-9), assists (49-46) and digs (58-53)

Dayana Chara each smacked a kill to help Lynn to an 11-9 advantage in set one
- The Sharks cruised to the win, however, behind an 11-1 run and a 5-0 scoring jolt for the 25-15 victory
- Nova hit .429 in set one, but managed just a .126 hitting percentage in sets two, three and four
- Lynn started its comeback in set two with a 6-1 run for a 9-6 lead
- The Sharks grabbed a 19-17 lead before a 5-0 run and 3-1 run sealed the 25-23 win

Samantha Wolf and junior
Aline Olegario posted kills that sparked a 5-1 run and a 9-6 edge in set three
- Two kills from Cecilia Pinho extended the lead to 14-10 and the hosts closed the set on a 5-1 run for the 25-19 win
- Olegario and Cecilia Pinho posted two blocks to cap set three
- The Fighting Knights jumped out to a 9-4 lead in set four before Nova collected a 5-1 run for a 14-12 lead
- Two kills and an ace from Wolf helped Lynn to a 19-17 lead before Lynn closed the evening with a 6-0 run
- Cecilia Pinho smacked two kills inside the 6-0 run for a 25-19 win in set four
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Cecilia Pinho hit .400 with 15 kills, three digs and two blocks
- Chara hit .500 with 10 kills
- Wolf had 10 kills and eight digs
- Edwards handed out 38 assists with 11 digs
