Trinity Mocadlo scored a game-high 19 points and senior
Ella Fiore posted a double-double as the Lynn University women's basketball team suffered a 63-57 setback to Virginia State, Monday afternoon.
The Fighting Knights settle at 2-1 overall on the season, while the Trojans remain unbeaten at 3-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Virginia State outscored Lynn in each of the first three quarters, while the Fighting Knights outscored the Trojans 22-20 in the fourth frame
- The lead changed hands seven times and the score was tied on five occasions
- The visitors led by as manny as 14 in the fourth quarter
- Lynn jumped out to a 7-0 cushion behind two baskets and a free throw from graduate
Carly Stroemel
- Stroemel later hit a layup at 3:32 for an 11-8 lead
- The Trojans closed the first with two buckets for a 12-11 lead after one quarter
- Fiore hit a layup at 6:09 in the second and graduate
Taylor Boruff knocked down a three at 5:24 to tie the game at 16
- Boruff hit two free throws with 1:46 showing for a 20-19 edge, but the Trojans closed the half with a 24-20 lead following a late three-pointer
- Mocadlo opened the second half with a jumper before Fiore hit a fastbreak layup and a free throw for a 25-24 Lynn lead
- Over the next five minutes, Virginia State used a 17-4 run to grab a 41-29 lead at 2:29
- Fiore hit two free throws and Mocadlo hit a three as Lynn trailed 43-35 after the third quarter
- The visitors opened the fourth quarter by extending their lead to 14, 55-41 with just 4:51 remaining
- Mocadlo hit a layup and two free throws with just over two minutes to play that trimmed the deficit to 58-50
- Virginia State pushed its lead back to 10 with 1:21 to play and Mocadlo closed the contest with a three-pointer that set the final at 63-57

- Mocadlo shot 6-of-12 from the field with two three-pointers
- Fiore finished with 13 points and 10 rebounds
- Stroemel added eight points and seven rebounds
- Boruff scored seven
