Lynn rallies past Minnesota-Crookston

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Lynn University shot 49.2 percent from the field and outscored Minnesota-Crookston 42-24 after halftime in a 72-57 win on Saturday on the first day of the Barry University Classic. The Fighting Knights improve to 3-1 on the season behind four players in double figures.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn trailed 33-30 at halftime, but rebounded by shooting 54.8 percent in the second half (17-of-31) with four three-pointers
- The Fighting Knight dominated in the paint, outscoring the Golden Eagles 48-24
- Crookston used a 12-2 run in the first quarter to shake off a three-point deficit for a 14-7 cushion at 4:30
- Lynn closed the first frame on a 6-0 scoring jolt behind buckets from graduate Rachel Romich, senior Ella Fiore and freshman Trinity Mocadlo to pull the score to 14-13 after one
- The Fighting Knights tied the game five times in the second quarter
- The Golden Eagles grabbed a pair of four-point leads in the second before a three-pointer with 23 seconds left carried a 33-30 advantage into halftime
- Senior Danielle Montelbano connected on a layup just over three minutes into the third for a 43-41 lead and Lynn never trailed again
- The Fighting Knights closed the third on an 11-2 run as junior Makayla Hemingway hit a three at 1:39 and closed the frame with a layup with 31 seconds left for a 56-46 lead
- Montelbano hit a three at 6:32 in the fourth for a 61-48 lead
- Lynn later led 67-53 (3:43) and 69-55 (3:14) before Hemingway hit her third and final three for a 72-55 cushion with 1:04 to play
- Crookston closed the game with a jumper to set the final at 72-57
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Hemingway poured in 17 points with three three-pointers
- Fiore posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds (eight defensive) with four steals
- Mocadlo and graduate Carly Stroemel each added 12 points
