MOBILE, Ala. - In a road scrimmage against Division I South Alabama Tuesday night, the Lynn men's basketball team cut a 15-point deficit to two with under five minutes to play. A 10-0 run by the Jaguars, however, cut Lynn's comeback bid short in a 74-62 loss.
Four Fighting Knights scored in double figures in the exhibition. Lynn head coach Jeff Price was an assistant at South Alabama and served as their interim head coach for ten games in the 2012 season.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Ben Gahlert scored Lynn's first nine points of the game in under three minutes to give the Fighting Knights an early 9-7 lead
- South Alabama followed with a 13-6 run
- Tradavis Thompson hit a three to cut the Jaguars lead to three, 20-17, with 11:22 remaining in the first half
- Nordin Kapic made a layup after grabbing an offensive rebound and Jamison Evans followed with a steal and a layup, as Lynn trailed 25-21 with 7:02 left in the first half
- The Jaguars made a run to end the half and led 42-27 at the break
- Lynn cut its deficit to 10 with five straight points to open the second half
- Brad McCabe knocked down a three to bring the exhibition back to single digits, 55-46, with 12:43 remaining in the game
- Thompson slashed to the lane for two consecutive layups to make the score 55-50
- A Thompson three and McCabe rebound and put-back got the Fighting Knights within two, 64-62
- The Fighting Knights were held scoreless in the final 5:23, as the Jaguars finished the game on a 10-0 run
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn outscored South Alabama 35-32 in the second half
- Thompson had a team-leading 13 points and 5 assists
- Gahlert added 11 points and 4 boards
- Kapic scored 10 points and 5 of his 9 rebounds were offensive boards
- Evans scored 10 points and went 2-for-5 from three-point range
- McCabe had 8 points and 10 rebounds in 20 minutes
- Rickey Ballard added 9 points and 4 of his 9 rebounds were offensive
- Lynn out-rebounded South Alabama 41-27, including 15-2 on the offensive glass
