BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn men's soccer team lost its Sunshine State Conference Tournament first-round match to Nova Southeastern, Monday night. After playing to a 1-1 draw through regulation and two overtimes, the Fighting Knights were defeated on penalty kicks, 5-3. Lynn was led by Max Lambertz and his third goal of 2023.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kymani King had an early chance on a free kick from just outside the 18 that went over the crossbar at 2:19
- Henry Haferkorn and Patrick O'Halloran each put shots on goal within the first 10 minutes of the match
- Luis Kiefer and Ali Koller had their shots blocked in the 20th and 21st minute
- The Sharks' Zyan Andrade took three shots in the first half, including one on target at 33:18 that was saved by Lynn goalkeeper Luca Clavero
- Lynn had a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks in the first half
- Kiefer put a hard shot on net that was saved by NSU's goalkeeper at 47:34
- Nova's Ade Olumyiwa gave the road team a 1-0 lead with a header off a cross from Andrade at 51:22
- Lynn answered with a goal on a Max Lambertz header from O'Halloran at 67:31
- In the 73rd minute, NSU's Andrade controlled the ball with Clavero away from the net, but Marco Costa made a save on Andrade's shot to preserve the tie
- Each team attempted three shots in the final 15 minutes of the second half, with Clavero making two saves as the match went to overtime
- Lambertz had two quick chances early in the first overtime, as Lynn outshot Nova 3-0 in the frame
- In the second overtime, each team had a shot on goal as Clavero made a save in the 103rd minute and O'Halloran's shot was stopped in the 104th minute
- Still tied 1-1 after two overtimes, the match went to penalty kicks
- Ali Koller, Lambertz and Oskar Dahlberg all made their PK's, but NSU went 5-for-5 in their attempts to advance to the second round
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn outshot NSU 18-11 and owned a 9-7 edge in shots on goal
- O'Halloran led all players with six shots and five shots on goal
- Lambertz scored his third goal of the year while O'Halloran collected his fourth assist
