MELBOURNE, Fla. – Sophomore
Nordin Kapic scored a team-best 17 points as the Lynn University men's basketball team suffered an 83-64 defeat to Georgia Southwestern State University, Monday afternoon in the opening round of the Florida Tech Winter Classic.
The Fighting Knights slip to 5-2 with the loss, while the Hurricanes improve to 7-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Georgia Southwestern outscored Lynn 43-28 in the first half and 40-36 in the second
- The Fighting Knights turned 17 turnovers into a 17-7 advantage in points off turnovers
- The Hurricanes shot 54.1 percent (33-of-61) from the floor with 11 three-pointers, while the Fighting Knights finished just 24-of-67 (35.8%) from the field with seven three-pointers
- Aside from an early tie, Georgia Southwestern led from the opening tip to the final horn
- Kapic hit a layup at 11:54 to pull Lynn to within one, 15-14

Jalen Gilmore hit two free throws that also pulled Lynn to within one at 17-16 with 10:16 left in the first
- The Hurricanes collected a 14-1 run for a 31-17 lead at 7:05
- Georgia Southwestern increased its lead to 18 before carrying a 43-28 lead into halftime
- A three-pointer just over two minutes into the second half pushed the lead to 50-29

Brad McCabe hit a layup at 12:18 that trimmed the deficit to 57-41 and graduate
Jamison Evans hit a three at 10:52 that pulled the score to 58-44
- Back-to-back threes from Gilmore kept the deficit at 14 at both 61-47 and 64-50

Tradavis Thompson made a layup with 6:47 left as Lynn trailed by just 10 at 64-54
- The Hurricanes answered by pushing their lead back 21 before winning 83-64
