BOCA RATON, Fla. – Sophomore
Nordin Kapic scored the most points in a single game for Lynn in nearly 14 years to power the Fighting Knights to a 98-92 win over Tampa in the final game of the 2023 portion of their schedule Saturday. Lynn improves to 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the SSC, while the Spartans settle at 5-7 overall and 1-3 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kapic finished with 42 points, tied for the second most in a single game in program history and the most since Chris Hall scored 43 points against Nova Southeastern on March 4, 2009
- Kapic shot 15-of-19 (78.9) from the floor, 4-of-5 (80%) from three-point land and 8-of-10 (80%) from the foul line
- Lynn shot 48.6 percent from the floor (36-of-74), including 60.0 percent (21-of-35) in the decisive second half
- The Fighting Knights also knocked down 11 three-pointers and handed out assists on 27 of their 36 baskets
- Tampa held a 46-44 lead at halftime before Lynn rebounded to outscore the visitors 54-46 over the final 20 minutes
- The score was tied 15 times and the lead changed hands 21 times
- Lynn led by eight twice in the opening half when sophomore Ricky Ballard hit a layup at 9:25 for a 30-22 cushion and graduate
Brad McCabe hit three free throws for a 33-25 lead at 7:48
- Tyson Leitao hit a layup and Bryan Williams knocked down two foul shots as Tampa emerged with a 46-44 lead at intermission
- The second half featured six ties and 13 lead changes that all came inside the final 10:11 of regulation
- Leitao hit two more free throws as the Spartans led 70-62 with 12:12 to play
- Lynn regained its footing with a 10-0 run that was capped by a Kapic jumper at 9:41 for a 72-70 lead
- Just over four minutes later, Kapic hit a three for a 79-78 lead and graduate student
Tradavis Thompson hit a three of his own for an 82-80 lead at 4:57

Ben Gahlert hit a jumper at 3:38 for an 85-84 lead and Kapic connected on a jumper at 2:55 for an 87-86 lead
- Tampa snared two more leads before a three-pointer from Kapic with 33 seconds left gave Lynn the lead for good at 94-91
- Gahlert sealed the evening with two foul shots with two seconds left for a 98-92 lead
- Williams led the Spartans in scoring with 39 points along with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals
- Leitao finished with 29 points and 14 rebounds
- Together they combined for 68 points and 22 rebounds
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Kapic added seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks
- Gahlert finished with 19 points and 13 rebounds, his third double-double of the season
