Fighting Knights win third straight game

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University baseball team scored seven runs over the third and fourth innings and carried that momentum to an 8-1 win over Kentucky Wesleyan, Saturday. The win is the third straight for the Fighting Knights as they improved their overall record to 4-1-1 on the season. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- Chase Wills served as the "opener" for Lynn, pitching a scoreless first inning in his first appearance of the season
- Catcher Yuzuki Okamura got things going in the bottom of the third with a double that scored second baseman AJ Orrico for a 1-0 lead 
- Two batters later, right fielder Ryan Ford tripled, scoring both Okamura and Shawn Dougherty 
- Ford closed the inning's scoring when he crossed the plate on a passed ball for a 4-0 lead 
- Orrico and center fielder Byron Murray scored to open the fourth frame when a ball hit to the Kentucky Wesleyan shortstop wasn't fielded cleanly 
- The Fighting Knights lead ballooned to 7-0 when left fielder Leon Paulino singled home Okamura 
- Pitcher Tyler Romanias entered in the second inning and held the Panthers scoreless over five innings, finishing strong by striking out the side in his final frame of work
- Lynn's final run of the ballgame came in the sixth inning when Okamura scored an unearned run on an error by the KWC pitcher 
- Wesleyan's sacrifice fly in the eighth inning scored the final run of the game 
- Pitcher's Jack Potter, Tyler Venditti and Drew Clark each pitched an inning without allowing an earned run to close out the game
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Okamura finished 3-for-4 with three doubles, three runs scored, an RBI and a walk and has a .526 OB% in 2023
- Orrico posted two hits and two runs and has scored nine times through six games
- Ford was 1-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored 
- Romanias picked up the victory on the mound after tossing five scoreless innings in relief with six strikeouts
- After posting 12 strikeouts on Saturday, the Fighting Knights pitching staff has recorded 10+ strikeouts in four of their six games
- The Lynn lineup has drawn 37 walks over six games (6.2 BB/G)
- The Fighting Knights have been hit by a pitch 16 times over six games
