BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn softball team won both games of their Tuesday doubleheader against Keiser. Taylor Scala hit a walk-off single to seal a 4-3 win in the first game, while the Fighting Knights shut out the Seahawks 6-0 in game two.
INSIDE THE DOUBLEHEADER:
Game 1: Lynn 4, Keiser 3
Game 2: Lynn 6, Keiser 0
- The victories give Lynn a 4-2 record overall as they prepare for their first Sunshine State Conference game later this week.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1):
- In the top of the first, Keiser loaded the bases with no outs but failed to score
- Starting pitcher Faith Miller induced a 5-2-3 double play and then struck out a batter to get out of the jam
- Lacee Travens hit an RBI double in the second inning to give Keiser a 1-0 lead
- The Seahawks tacked on two more runs in the top of the fourth, making the score 3-0
- Lynn cut the Keiser lead to 3-1 when Morgan Simpson scored on a Josey Sumpter sac fly in the bottom of the fourth
- In the bottom of the sixth, Adriana Otero singled home Taylor Scala to put the Fighting Knights within one run
- Keiser committed two errors in the bottom of the fifth, allowing Lynn to score a run
- The Fighting Knights tied the game in the sixth after Taylor Scala singled, stole second, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on an Adriana Otero single
- Keiser had runners on second and third with one out in the top of the seventh but pitcher Josey Sumpter got out of the inning unscathed
- In the bottom of the seventh with the score tied 3-3, Aryana Galioto singled, stole second and advanced to third on a Morgan Simpson single
- Taylor Scala slapped a base-hit between the third baseman and shortstop to score Galioto and secure a 4-3 Fighting Knights win
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (GAME 1):
- Lynn had one hit through the first four innings before starting their comeback
- Josey Sumpter pitched five innings in relief, allowing two runs, to earn the win
- This was the second walk-off win for the Fighting Knights this season
- Despite not starting, Taylor Scala went 2-for-2 with a run scored and the game-winning RBI
- Lynn scored one run in each of the final four innings to come back from a 3-0 deficit
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2):
- Starting pitchers Haley Fardanesh and Kelsie Merriman kept the game scoreless through three and half innings
- Morgan Scala raced home to score from second base on a single by Olivia Lovins for the first run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning
- The Fighting Knights scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth, thanks to two singles, a walk, a hit by pitch and a Keiser error and wild pitch
- The lead ballooned to 6-0 when Faith Miller drove in Alexis Murphy and Morgan Scala drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the sixth
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (GAME 2):
- Pitchers Haley Fardanesh and Madison Prickett combined to give up five hits and three walks while striking out four in the shutout victory
- Lynn reached base eight times via walk or hit by pitch
- Over the two games, Taylor Scala went 3-for-5 with two runs, an RBI and two stolen bases
- The Fighting Knights pitching staff has given up just 20 runs through six games (3.3 R/G)
- Aryana Galioto went 3-for-7 with three runs scored over the two games, raising her season batting average to .385
- This was Lynn's first shutout win since 4/23/2022 when Madison Prickett pitched a no-hitter against Eckerd
