WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Freshman Nordin Kapic posted his fourth straight double-double and sophomore Montez Leath tied a season high with 14 points in an 80-56 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic on Wednesday night.
The Fighting Knights men's basketball team drops to 4-19 overall and 2-16 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Kapic made two free throws and freshman Rickey Ballard made a layup to put Lynn ahead 4-2 with 18:22 left in the first half
- Palm Beach Atlantic scored eight straight points to take a 10-4 lead, highlighted by Trent McNair's two three pointers
- After a Lynn three pointer by freshman JP Baron, PBA went on a 14-0 run to take a 24-7 advantage
- Sophomore Montez Leath scored five straight points to cut PBA's lead to 24-12 with 10:50 left in the first half
- Ballard and junior Jamison Evans scored back-to-back baskets late in the first half for Lynn to cut the deficit to 20 points
- The Fighting Knights scored six straight points get within 18 with 15:40 left after freshman Jalen Gilmore and Kapic made free throws, followed by a Leath three pointer
- The Sailfish led by 27, 68-41, with 7:40 left after Will Lee made a layup
- Kapic closed the gap to 20 points with four consecutive points with 5:23 left but the Fighting Knights would not get any closer as PBA prevailed, 80-56
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Kapic scored 18 points (4-for-9 from the field, 10-for-13 at the free throw line) with 10 rebounds, his 12th double-double of the season
- Ballard grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds, including five offensive boards
- Lynn outscored Palm Beach Atlantic in bench points, 25-13
- Lynn went 20-for-28 from the free throw line while PBA went 5-for-6
