BOCA RATON, Fla. - Starting left fielder Leon Paulino went 3-for-3 and hit his first home run and triple of the season, but the Fighting Knights were defeated by the Southern Connecticut State Owls, 7-6, on Saturday. The loss moves Lynn's record to 5-3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Nathan Shane started for the Knights tossing two strikeouts in the top of the first inning
- The Owls jumped out to a one run lead in the top of the second following a throwing error at third base
- Paulino and junior David Judge hit back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the second inning to put the Fighting Knights ahead 2-1
- A sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning evened the score at two
- Back-to-back triples from junior Ryan Ford and Paulino gave the Knights a 3-2 lead … Paulino would later score off a single by junior shortstop John Rodriguez as Lynn led 4-2 after six innings
- The Owls scored four runs in the seventh inning making the score 6-4, capped off by a Connor Goggin two-run single
- The Owls scored a seventh run in the top of the eighth inning
- The Knights were able to add to runs back in the bottom of the eighth inning
- Ford and junior catcher Yuzuki Okamura scored on a wild pitch and a single from senior outfielder Byron Murray
- The Fighting Knights stranded two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth and came up just short of a victory
FIGHTING KNIGHTS STATS:
- Shane tossed six innings allowing only one earned run
- Redshirt senior Eric Heatter tossed a scoreless ninth inning in his Lynn debut
- Paulino was 3-for-3 at the plate with a homer, triple and two walks
- Ford went 2-for-4 with a walk
- Shawn Dougherty went 2-for-4 with a double and now has three straight multi-hit games
