Lynn men lose to Florida Southern

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Freshman Nordin Kapic collected his ninth double-double of the season, but Lynn University suffered a 100-81 loss to Florida Southern, Saturday in a Sunshine State Conference matchup. Kapic scored 25 points and snared 13 rebounds to lead both teams in each category.
 
The Fighting Knights settle at 4-16 overall and 2-13 in the league.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Lynn shot 50.8 percent from the field on 32-of-63 shooting with eight three-pointers
- The Mocasins finished at 64.1 percent shooting on 41-of-64 attempts from the field with eight three-pointers
- Florida Southern scored 22 points off turnovers and led 36-8 in bench points
- The lead changed hands 10 times in the first half with two ties
- Kapic hit a three-pointer at 16:33 as Lynn led by two, 8-6
- Freshmen Jimel Lane and Rickey Ballard hit back-to-back baskets at 15:24 and 15:07 as Lynn again led by two, 12-10
- The Mocs rebounded to lead by six before Lane made a layup and dunk to pull the Fighting Knights to within one, 27-26 at 8:08
- Florida Southern collected a 13-0 run following Lane's baskets for a 40-26 lead with 3:40 to play in the half
- Freshman Jalen Gilmore knocked down a three-pointer with 17 seconds left to cut the deficit to 11 before FSC closed the half with a three of its own for a 49-35 lead at the break
- Ballard flushed a dunk and junior Braxton Bartlett hit a three-pointer to open the second half scoring for Lynn as it trailed by just 17
- Florida Southern slowly pushed its lead to 24 with 14 minutes to play in the game
- Junior Jamison Evans hit a three-pointer at 12:31 to pull Lynn to within 73-53
- Gilmore hit a layup and free throw with 9:16 showing as the Fighting Knights trailed by 18, 80-62
- Bartlett hit another three-pointer with 6:45 remaining as the score read 86-68
- Ballard hit a traditional three-point play with a layup and free throw at 1:05 to pull Lynn to within 98-79
- Gilmore closed the game with a layup to set the final at 100-81
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Kapic finished the game on 9-of-15 shooting with five assists
- Gilmore scored a career-high 20 points with six rebounds and four assists
- Ballard equaled a career-high with 13 points
- Lane poured in nine points with seven rebounds
