MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - Graduate student Jada Marone scored 23 points with eight rebounds and four steals in a decisive 73-52 win for the Fighting Knights over Barry.
Lynn held a double-digit lead for the final 28 minutes as they improved to 17-7 overall and 10-6 in Sunshine State Conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Marone hit two quick three pointers and sophomore Ella Fiore made a layup to give Lynn an early 8-0 lead
- Barry cut the lead to four, 12-8, on a Signe Glantz three pointer with 5:13 left in the first quarter
- Sophomore Danielle Montelbano scored four points during a Lynn 6-0 run to close the first quarter with an 18-8 advantage
- The Fighting Knights went on another 6-0 run early in the second, led by two free throws and a three pointer by graduate student Meghan Cramb
- Marone, Fiore and sophomore Rachel Romich combined for a 5-0 run, all at the free throw line over a 1:05 span, to push the Fighting Knights lead to 18
- Montelbano hit a layup with :05 left in the second quarter to give Lynn a 39-21 lead at halftime
- Barry quickly cut the Lynn lead to 12 with 7:41 left in the third quarter
- The Fighting Knights responded with a 10-2 surge, as Cramb added four more points, to make the score 50-30 with 2:47 left in the third period
- The Buccaneers cut the deficit 13 with 5:48 left in the fourth quarter
- Lynn scored 16 points in the final 5:17 of the game; 10 points on free throws and six points on three pointers by Marone and Montelbano for a 73-52 final score
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn had four players, Marone (23), Montelbano (12), Fiore (11) and Romich (11), reach double digits in points
- Eight of Romich's 11 points were scored at the free throw line
- Both of Montelbano's double-digit point games this year have come against Barry (15 points on Jan. 14)
- Fiore went 4-for-5 on the night and is shooting 60% from the field this season, second-best in the SSC
- Marone swiped a game-high four steals, her eighth game with at least four steals this season
- Marone ranks third in the SSC in steals per game (2.4) and sixth in points per game (14.7)
- Graduate student Lucija Kostic had a game-high four assists and has reached at least that total in eight of her last nine games
- Marone (8) and Cramb (7) each posted a season high in rebounds
- The Fighting Knights scored 27 points off forced turnovers
- Lynn extended its winning streak to three games while ending Barry's winning streak at five games
- Lynn (10-6 in conference) held off Barry's attempt to pass them in the SSC standings and now hold a one-game lead over Florida Southern (9-7) for fourth place
