Softball walks off Caldwell in game two

BOCA RATON, Fla. – The Lynn University softball team earned a split with visiting Caldwell, Tuesday, dropping game one, 7-0, before rebounding with a walk-off win over the Cougars, 5-4, in eight innings. The Fighting Knights are now 15-14 after the split and are 9-6 at home. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):  
- Caldwell's three hits in the first inning led to an early 1-0 lead 
- The Cougars added two more runs in the second inning 
- Olivia Magliacano's two-run double in the top of the fourth extended Caldwell's lead to 5-0 
- Josey Sumpter pitched four innings of relief for Lynn, allowing just one earned run 
- Caldwell tacked on their final run in the top of the seventh for a 7-0 win 

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2): 
- Starting pitcher Madison Prickett got out of a bases loaded jam in the top of the first inning 
- The Cougars scored a run in the second and third innings to go up 2-0 
- The Fighting Knights scored their first run on an Adriana Otero RBI double in the top of the fourth inning 
- Later in the inning, Olivia Lovins walked and later scored on Faith Miller's RBI groundout to tie the game at two 
- Taylor Scala led off the bottom of the fifth with a single, stole second and later scored on Sumpter's double 
- Caldwell tied the game in the top of the sixth with help from three singles and took a 4-3 lead in the top of the seventh on Emma Cooney's base hit 
- In the bottom of the seventh, T. Scala reached on an error, stole second, advanced to third on Morgan Simpson's single and stole home to force extra innings 
- Relief pitcher Faith Miller held Caldwell scoreless in the top of the eighth inning 
- In the bottom of the eighth, Lovins reached and advanced to second base on a fielder's choice, and later scored the game-winning run on a throwing error by the shortstop to give the home team the 5-4 win 

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- T. Scala had three hits and four steals on the day, including three steals in the game two win 
- Sumpter now has a team-leading 18 RBI this season 
- Simpson went 2-for-3 with two steals in game two and now has 22 steals and seven multi-hit games in 2023 
- Otero went 2-for-3 with a double, walk and an RBI in game two 
- Lynn stole six total bases in game two
