BOCA RATON, Fla. - The Lynn softball team returned to Sunshine State Conference action on Friday and fell late to Barry, 5-2. Monique Poitevin broke a scoreless game with a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Barry bats came alive in the final two innings to secure the victory.
Lynn is now 15-15 overall and 5-5 in the SSC.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Starting pitchers Haley Fardanesh and Maci Barnhart kept the game scoreless through four innings
- Lynn first baseman Monique Poitevin hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to break the scoreless tie
- Barry responded with a run the next inning to tie the game at one
- In the top of the seventh, the Buccaneers tallied four runs with help from a Hayley Pasma pinch-hit two-run double
- Josey Sumpter led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and later scored, but the Fighting Knights rally ended there to end the game in favor of the visiting team, 5-2
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Poitevin hit her first home run of the season after hitting two homers in 2022
- Sumpter is now tied for third in the SSC with three triples this season
- Taylor Scala and Aryana Galioto each stole a base and rank in the top 10 in the SSC in total steals

Lynn and Barry finish their weekend series with a doubleheader in Boca Raton tomorrow, March 18. The first game is scheduled to begin at noon.
