MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The Lynn baseball team had 12 hits, including a double and home run by John Rodriguez, but could not hold onto an early lead in a 12-7 loss against Barry on Saturday. The Fighting Knights are now 11-13-1 overall and 2-7 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Yuzuki Okamura and Ryan Ford hit back-to-back doubles to give Lynn a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning
- Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to put Lynn up 3-0
- Barry hit two doubles and a pair of singles in the bottom of the second to tie the game at three
- The Buccaneers took their first lead on a Jake Ogden solo home run
- Byron Murray gave Lynn a 5-4 lead with a two-run double in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Deric LaMontagne and Leon Paulino
- Shawn Dougherty and Murray scored on Rodriguez's double to put the visitors ahead, 7-4
- Barry hit a two-run homer and a grand slam as part of an eight-run sixth inning to take a 12-7 lead
- Lynn was held scoreless over the final three innings
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Rodriguez went 2-for-4 with a double, home run and four runs batted in
- Over his last five games, Rodriguez is batting .421 (8-for-19) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, one steal, five runs scored and seven runs batted in
- Ford reached base in all four of his plate appearances to raise his season OB% to .398
- Paulino led Lynn with three hits and is now batting .324 in 2023
- AJ Orrico posted his 13th multi-hit game this season and leads the Sunshine State Conference with 40 hits this year
- Murray went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and two RBI
- Relief pitcher Chase Wills tossed a scoreless inning to lower his season ERA to 1.93
- The Fighting Knights have posted 12 hits in each of their two games against Barry this weekend
