WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - The Lynn softball team dropped both games of their doubleheader against Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday by scores of 9-0 and 5-3. Josey Sumpter slugged her fifth home run of the season in the game two defeat.
Lynn is now 17-18 overall this season and 7-8 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- PBA's Evoni Rodriguez hit an RBI triple and later scored as part of a four-run first inning
- The Sailfish added two more runs in the third after hitting three singles to begin the inning
- Palm Beach Atlantic scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth and pitched a scoreless top of the fifth to end the game with a 9-0 win
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- The Fighting Knights used singles by Morgan Simpson, Aymee Godmaire and Sofia Jimenez, and a walk by Monique Poitevin, to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning
- After the Sailfish scored a run, Lynn regained their two-run lead on Sumpter's solo home run
- PBA rallied in the bottom of the seventh with two walks, a single and a walk-off grand slam by Larken Maseda to win the game 5-3
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Olivia Lovins went 2-for-2 in game one
- Josey Sumpter hit her fifth home run of the season and is tied for fourth in the SSC in homers
- Jimenez went 2-for-3 with an RBI in game two
- Faith Miller reached base twice in three plate appearances in game two
