BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn softball lost its weekend opener against Embry-Riddle, 7-1, Friday afternoon. Morgan Simpson stole her 26th base of the season and leadoff hitter Taylor Scala swiped her 25th bag of 2023. Each Fighting Knight ranks in the top five in the conference in stolen bases. Lynn is now 17-19 overall and 7-9 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Embry-Riddle jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, as Raissa Bianco hit an RBI single and later scored on a base hit.
- Lynn cut the lead in half in the third inning when Taylor Scala, singled, stole second and scored on a wild pitch
- The Eagles regained their two-run lead in the top of the fourth on a Delaney Morgan solo home run
- The visitors added a run in the sixth on a wild pitch and added the final three runs of the game in the seventh inning for a 7-1 final
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Taylor Scala went 1-for-2 with a walk, run and stolen base
- Morgan Simpson walked and stole a base
- Eliza Gonzalez notched her fifth hit of the season
- Relief pitcher Faith Miller threw three innings, allowed one run and struck out four batters to lower her season ERA to 3.25
