DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Lynn baseball team used a five-run eighth inning to secure a 14-8 win over Embry-Riddle on Friday night. Fighting Knight hitters totaled 16 hits, including a home run, two triples and six doubles, en route to the victory.
Lynn is now 13-15-1 overall and 4-9 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Eagles jumped out to a three-run lead after one inning
- Byron Murray, Shawn Dougherty and Ryan Ford each doubled in the top of the second inning, leading to two Lynn runs
- Down 5-2, Lynn once again got within a run via David Judge and Leon Paulino doubles
- The Fighting Knights took their first lead of the game with a four-run top of the sixth inning, as Ford, John Rodriguez, AJ Orrico and Judge all scored to take an 8-6 lead
- Embry-Riddle responded with two runs in the bottom half of the frame
- Each team had eight runs, ten hits and two errors through six innings
- After a scoreless seventh inning, the Fighting Knights rallied for five runs in the top of the eighth
- Paulino had a run-scoring single, Deric LaMontagne hit an RBI double, Dougherty plated another run with a triple and Yuzuki Okamura knocked in the final run of the eighth to give Lynn a 13-8 lead
- Judge homered in the ninth inning for one final insurance run
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Judge is tied for third in the SSC with eight home runs and ranks fourth with 31 RBI
- Orrico scored twice and is tied for fourth in the conference with 33 runs scored this season
- Paulino now has 28 RBI in 22 games played and leads the team with eight doubles
- LaMontagne has scored 14 times over his last 13 games and is hitting .386 over the stretch
- Murray collected his ninth multi-hit game of the season and is 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts
- Dougherty and Ford each hit a double and a triple and are tied for first with each other for most triples in the SSC (4)
- Rodriguez stole his 11th base of the season and is the only player in the SSC with at least five home runs and 10 steals in 2023
- Winning pitcher Drew Clark retired the final 12 batters he faced, allowing two runs over four innings to improve to 3-3 on the season
