DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Lynn baseball team lost both games of their doubleheader with Embry-Riddle on Saturday by scores of 5-1 and 6-3. Leon Paulino hit his team-leading ninth double of the season in game one and slugged his seventh homer in game two for the Fighting Knights.
Lynn is now 13-17-1 overall and 4-11 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Eagles scored a run in the bottom of the first after leading off the inning with a double
- Ryan Ford hit a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to tie the game, 1-1
- Embry-Riddle used RBI singles to score a run in the fifth and sixth innings to take a 3-1 lead
- The Eagles scored two more runs on a bases loaded hit by pitch and base on balls in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 5-1 final score
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Ford went 2-for-4 and hit his fourth home run of the season
- Paulino hit his fourth double in his last four games
- David Judge went 1-for-3 with a double and a walk
- John Rodriguez went 2-for-4
- Pedro Martinez had a pinch-hit single to raise his season average to .333 (9-for-27)
- Drew Dwyer's pitching line: 7 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 11 SO
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Deric LaMontagne led off the second inning with a double and later scored to give the Fighting Knights a 1-0 lead
- A trio of singles by the Eagles led to two runs and the lead
- Embry-Riddle scored on a wild pitch and an error in the fourth inning to go up 4-1
- AJ Orrico walked and later scored to cut the Eagles lead to two runs in the top of the sixth inning
- Paulino hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth to once again make it a two-run game
- Embry-Riddle scored the final run of the game on Alex Britton's RBI single in the bottom of the eighth for a 6-3 final score
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Over his last five games, Paulino is batting .435 (10-for-23) with four doubles, one triple, one home run, six runs and 5 RBI
- Byron Murray went 2-for-3 with a double and his conference-leading 33rd walk of 2023
- Orrico reached based in two of his four plate appearances to raise his season OB% to .435
- Relief pitcher Nathan Shane tossed 1.1 scoreless innings
- Lynn homered in all three games of the series and have hit 21 long balls over their last 12 games
