Fighting Knights split doubleheader with Rollins

WINTER PARK, Fla. – Lynn softball overcame a five-run deficit to win the first game of their doubleheader with Rollins, 8-5, but fell in the second game, 1-5. The Fighting Knights are now 11-8 overall and their 5-4 record in the Sunshine State Conference is tied for fifth place.  

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):  
- The Fighting Knights rallied in the opener from an early 5-0 hole 
- Rollins' Grace Germer smacked a solo home run as the game's second batter for a quick 1-0 lead 
- Five batters later, Jaden Walker hit a grand slam to centerfield as the Tars had control early on 
- In the top half of the second, Lynn narrowed the deficit after plating three runs 
- Senior Faith Miller singled to third and scored when the next batter, graduate student Adriana Otero hit a double to center 
- Senior Destiny Torres singled home junior Cameron Buzzell and Otero scored on an error to narrow the Fighting Knight deficit to 5-3 
- Lynn completed the comeback with single runs in the fifth and six innings and three runs in the seventh 
- Senior Aryana Galioto scored on a wild pitch in the fifth and Torres plated senior Josey Sumpter with a sacrifice fly that knotted things at 5-5 in the sixth 
- Miller reached on a sacrifice bunt in the seventh that scored senior Taylor Scala and Galioto for a 7-5 lead 
- Sumpter singled down the left field line that scored Miller to cap the opener 
- Rollins committed six errors 
- Sophomore Madison Prickett improved to 4-1 after scattering four hits and allowing five runs 
- Following the five-run first inning, Prickett allowed just one hit with five strikeouts 

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1): 
- Miller finished 1-for-2 with two runs and a walk 
- Otero was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI 
- Sumpter was 1-for-3 with a run, an RBI and a walk 
- Torres was 1-for-2 with an RBI 
- Galioto scored twice 

 HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2): 
- The Tars got the scoring started with a solo home run by Ashley Troutman in the bottom of the third inning 
- Rollins added three more runs with help from an Emma Gipple two-run single to give the home team a 4-0 lead 
- A Sofia Jimenez groundout scored Olivia Lovins in the sixth inning for Lynn's only run of the game 

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2): 
- A Morgan Simpson single and Aymee Godmaire double were the only two hits of the game for the Fighting Knights 
- Lovins has scored four runs over her last four games played 
- The Fighting Knights did not commit an error on defense in either game
