CLERMONT, Fla. - The Fighting Knights softball team began their trip to THE Spring Games with a loss and a win on Monday afternoon. After losing 0-3 to Concordia, Lynn bounced back with a shutout of their own over Staten Island, 13-0, in five innings.
The Fighting Knights are now 12-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Taylor Scala walked and stole second to lead off the bottom of the first inning but Lynn was unable to drive her home
- Concordia scored the first run of the game in the top of the third inning when Alexis Houston singled, stole second and scored on a base hit
- The visitors took a 2-0 lead on Sydney Pelzer's RBI single in the top of the fifth inning and scored the game's final run in the sixth inning on Houston's RBI single
- Faith Miller doubled in the bottom of the seventh inning but the Fighting Knights could not score to end the game with a 3-0 final
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Miller hit her team-leading third double of the season
- T. Scala went 1-for-2 with a walk and stole her 15th base of the year
- Aymee Godmaire went 1-for-2 with a walk and has reached base in four of her last five plate appearances
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- T. Scala led off the game with a single, stole second, and later scored on a Faith Miller bunt
- Lynn scored three runs in the second inning with help from an Olivia Lovins double and Morgan Simpson single
- Miller led off the top of the third with a solo home run to give Lynn a 5-0 lead
- Olivia Lovins drove in Sofia Jimenez and Josey Sumpter with a single to make it a 7-0 game
- Madison Prickett and Lovins scored on a Simpson single as the third inning rally continued
- Sumpter and Jimenez each walked with the bases loaded to finish off a seven-run third inning to put the Fighting Knights ahead, 11-0
- Isabella Rittle and Cameron Buzzell scored the final two runs of the game in the top of the fifth inning
- Starting pitcher Madison Prickett, who gave up one hit in 4.1 innings, was relieved by Alexis Murphy, who recorded the final two outs of the game
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Prickett and Murphy combined to pitch a one-hit shutout
- T. Scala ranks second in the SSC in steals (16) and third in runs scored (17) in 2023
- Miller hit her first home run in a Lynn uniform and leads the team with a .976 OPS
- Sumpter collected her team-leading 14th RBI and reached base in all three of her plate appearances to raise her season OB% to .407
- Lovins went 2-for-3 with her third double of the season, two runs scored and two RBI
- Simpson went 2-for-2 with with two runs scored and two RBI, her fourth multi-hit game of the season
- Lynn set a season high with 13 runs scored
- The Fighting Knights tied a season high by drawing seven walks in the win
- Lynn pitchers tossed their fourth shutout of the season
