LEESBURG, Fla. – The Lynn University softball team closed its second day of the THE Spring Games in Leesburg with a loss to Upper Iowa, 10-6, and a, 1-0, win over Lake Erie, Tuesday. The Fighting Knights are 13-10 overall on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED: (Game 1)
- The Peacocks jumped out to a 7-2 lead after two innings of play
- Following a three-run first frame from Upper Iowa, Lynn pulled to within two runs when sophomore
Josey Sumpter singled home senior
Taylor Scala and senior
Aymee Godmaire crossed the plate when Sumpter was thrown at out second
- Upper Iowa tacked on four runs in the second for the 7-2 cushion
- Senior
Faith Miller hit a sacrifice fly in the third for a solo run and junior
Morgan Simpson singled home junior
Olivia Lovins in the fourth as Lynn pulled to within 7-5
- Both schools scored their finals run in the seventh
- The Peacocks posted a pair of run-scoring singles and an RBI ground out for a 10-6 lead in the top of the seventh
- Godmaire singled home Simpson in the home half of the seventh to set the final at 10-6
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Sumpter finished 2-for-4 with an RBI
- Godmaire was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored with a walk
- Simpson was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI
- Sumpster was the starting pitcher for Lynn and allowed seven earned runs with two strikeouts
HOW IT HAPPENED: (Game 2)
- Sophomore
Madison Prickett hurled a two-hit gem in the second game for her fifth win of the season
- She allowed just two hits, one in the first and one in the seventh
- She allowed just one runner past second base and struckout two batters in the third, fourth and fifth innings
- Simpson plated the game's only run in the third frame when she laid down a sacrifice bunt that score senior
