Lynn ends their spring games with a split in Leesburg

LEESBURG, Fla. – The Lynn softball team defeated Bloomfield, 4-1, in their morning tilt at THE Spring Games but lost their afternoon game to Minnesota State, 2-0. The Fighting Knights were led by Morgan Simpson, who had two hits in each game, and are now 14-11 overall this season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Taylor Scala led off the game with a walk, stole second and later scored on a double steal attempt with Aryana Galioto to give Lynn an early 1-0 lead
- Simpson and Aymee Godmaire each reached, stole a base and scored on a Josey Sumpter single to put the Fighting Knights ahead, 3-0, after the top of the first inning
- Adriana Otero singled, stole second and scored on Monique Poitevin's single in the top of the third inning
- Bloomfield scored their only run in the bottom of the fifth inning but relief pitcher Faith Miller struck out the final batter of the inning to keep Lynn ahead, 4-1

FIGHTING KNIGHTS STATS (Game 1):
- Starting pitcher Haley Fardanesh pitched four shutout innings to earn her fifth win of the season
- Simpson went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two stolen bases – her team-leading 17th and 18th steals of the season
- Simpson now has five multi-hit performances in her last 14 games
- Sumpter went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI and leads the team with 17 RBI this seaon
- Godmaire went 1-for-2 with a run scored, two walks, and a stolen base, raising her season OB% to .462
- Olivia Lovins went 2-for-3 with a double
- Over her last four games, Lovins is batting .583 (7-for-12) with three doubles
- Galioto went 2-for-4 and stole her 14th base of 2023
- T. Scala stole her 17th base of the season
- Poitevin went 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI to raise her season OB% to .423
- Lynn tied a season high with six steals in the game
- The Fighting Knights posted double digit hits for the third time this season

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Lynn starting pitcher Madison Prickett and Minnesota State starting pitcher McKayla Armbruster kept the game scoreless through four innings
- The only runs of the game were scored on Sydney Nelson's double in the top of the fifth inning

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Simpson posted her sixth multi-hit game over her last 15 games and stole her 19th base of the year
- Poitevin collected two hits, went 3-for-5 on the day and raised her average 98 points over the two games
- Prickett has allowed just one earned run over her last 18.1 innings pitched and lowered her ERA to 2.44
- Lynn out-hit Minnesota State 6-5
 
UP NEXT:
THE Spring Games are now over after the Fighting Knights went 3-3 over a four-day stretch in Clermont and Leesburg. Starting on Saturday, Lynn will play another six games in four days – this time at home in Boca Raton - starting with a noon doubleheader against Miami Dade on March 11.
