BOCA RATON, Fla. – Monique Poitevin hit a pinch-hit three-run home run to help the Lynn softball team defeat No. 13 Saint Leo, 4-3, Friday afternoon. The Lions came into the game with a .324 team batting average but were held to just one hit by the Fighting Knights pitching staff.
Lynn is now 19-23 overall, 9-13 in the Sunshine State Conference and 12-10 at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Saint Leo scored two runs in the top of the second after Briana Neal led off the inning with a double for the Lions' lone hit
- The Fighting Knights scored four runs in the bottom of the third with all baserunners reaching with two outs
- Eliza Gonzalez hit a bunt single and Taylor Scala was hit by a pitch
- Monique Poitevin hit a pinch-hit home run over the left field fence to give Lynn a 3-2 lead
- After Aymee Godmaire singled, Aryana Galioto pinch-ran for her, stole second and later scored on an error to make the score 4-2 after three innings
- Saint Leo looked to rally in the top of the seventh thanks to two walks to lead off the frame
- Relief pitcher Haley Fardanesh entered and recorded three straight ground outs to get out of the jam with only one run scoring for a 4-3 final
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Fighting Knight pitchers combined to throw their second one-hitter this season
- Starting pitcher Faith Miller tossed four innings, allowing one hit and one earned run to earn her second win of the season
- Fardanesh pitched the final three outs to pick up her first save of the season and lower her season ERA to 2.72
- Poitevin hit her second home run of the season and set a career high with three RBI
- Aryana Galioto stole her 19th base of the season
- Eliza Gonzalez went 1-for-2 and is 4-for-8 over her last three games
