BOCA RATON, Fla. – After defeating No. 13 Saint Leo on Friday, Lynn softball lost both games of their doubleheader on Saturday to the Lions, 2-8 and 0-5. The Fighting Knights are 19-25 overall this season and 9-15 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Each team scored two runs in the first inning
- The Lions scored two runs on Alyssa Perez's base hit in the top of the inning
- Taylor Scala and Morgan Simpson each reached and stole a base to open the bottom half of the frame
- Aymee Godmaire's single scored Scala and Sofia Jimenez's bases loaded walk scored Godmaire
- Saint Leo took the lead on a Bianca Polistina double in the third inning
- The score remained 3-2 entering the seventh inning
- Two hits, an error and three walks led to five runs and an 8-2 lead for the Lions
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Saint Leo scored on an error in the second and a wild pitch in the third to take a 2-0 lead
- A leadoff walk in the top of the fifth led to the Lions third run of the game
- Saint Leo scored two runs in the sixth, highlighted by a Hope Epps RBI single, to make it a five-run game
- Simpson hit a single in the seventh inning to break up Saint Leo's no-hit bid
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Lynn was 5-for-5 in stolen base attempts in game one
- Godmaire scored and drove in a run in the same game for the fourth time this season
- T. Scala scored her 27th run and stole her 27th base of 2023
- Simpson stole a base in each game and now has 32 on the season
- Josey Sumpter pitched 1.2 scoreless innings
