SAINT LEO, Fla. – Byron Murray hit three home runs over two games as Lynn split their doubleheader with Saint Leo, 11-4 and 5-7, on Saturday. AJ Orrico reached base five times and Murray homered twice in the game one victory, while David Judge went 4-for-4 in the nightcap.
The Fighting Knights are 15-22-1 overall and 6-15 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- Lynn scored the first eight runs of the game
- AJ Orrico led off the game with a walk, stole second and scored on a David Judge sac fly
- Shawn Dougherty hit a two-run double in the third inning to score Deric LaMontagne and Judge
- The Fighting Knights put up a five-spot in the fourth inning
- Byron Murray hit a two-run homer, LeMontagne hit a two-run triple and Yuzuki Okamura added an RBI single
- After Saint Leo scored a run in the bottom of the fourth, Lynn scored two runs in the top of the fifth
- Orrico doubled, stole third and scored on an error
- Murray hit a solo home run, his second of the game, to put Lynn ahead, 10-1
- In the sixth inning, John Rodriguez singled, stole second and scored on Orrico's triple
- A Lions three-run homer in the sixth inning cut Lynn's lead to 11-4
- Reliever Nathan Shane allowed just one hit over his final three innings
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Saint Leo scored on a sac fly in the first inning to start the scoring
- Lynn hit three home runs in a five-run third inning
- John Rodriguez led off the third with a solo homer
- Byron Murray hit a two-run homer, scoring AJ Orrico
- Leon Paulino hit a ground-rule double and David Judge followed with a two-run shot to put the Fighting Knights ahead, 5-1
- The Lions scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning, including a two-run home run by Adrien Roa, to make the score 5-4 in favor of Lynn
- Saint Leo tied the game in the bottom of the seventh on Mike Wyman's RBI double and retook the lead in the eighth inning on Mikey Scott's two-run single
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Murray's three home runs over the two games give him 11 on the season, tied for second most in the SSC
- Judge went 4-for-4 in game two and had five hits on the day to raise his season batting average to .371
- Judge hit his ninth home run of the season, tied for the fifth most in the conference
- Rodriguez stole his 14th base in game one and hit his seventh home run in game two and his 9.3 power/speed number leads the SSC
- Orrico reached base seven times over the two games and leads the team with a .457 OB% this season
- Orrico scored four times on the day and ranks third in the SSC with 44 runs scored in 2023
- Paulino recorded a hit in each game to extend his hitting streak to 12 games
- LaMontagne had three hits in the game one win, his ninth multi-hit game over his last 20 contests
- Pitcher Chris Mormile started game one, pitching three scoreless innings
- The Fighting Knights hit five home runs and two triples; their 49 home runs rank second in the SSC this season while their 16 triples lead the conference
- Lynn also drew nine walks over the two games and their 193 BB this season lead the SSC
