Pitching carries Lynn to doubleheader sweep

BOCA RATON, Fla. –  The Lynn softball team swept a doubleheader against Florida National, 4-1 and 4-0, Wednesday afternoon. Madison Prickett pitched a complete game and struck out a season-high nine batters in game one, while three Fighting Knight pitchers combined for a shutout in game two.
 
Lynn improves to 21-25 overall and has reached the 20-win plateau for the first time since 2018.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 1):
- The Fighting Knights scored three runs in the first inning
- Morgan Simpson and Aymee Godmaire each reached and stole a base
- Josey Sumpter hit a single to drive home Simpson
- Later in the first, Olivia Lovins hit a two-run single, scoring Sumpter and Adriana Otero
- Simpson singled, stole second and later scored on Aymee Godmaire's single in the fifth inning to put Lynn ahead, 4-0
- Starting pitcher Madison Prickett struck out the side in the sixth inning
- Florida National scored their only run in the seventh inning as Prickett completed the game for a 4-1 final
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 1):
- Prickett's pitching line: 7 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 9 SO
- Prickett's nine strikeouts are the most by a Lynn pitcher this season
- Simpson collected her 10th multi-hit game and stole her 33rd and 34th bases of the season
- Godmaire went 1-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base
- Otero reached base twice
- After knocking in two runs, Lovins became the fifth Fighting Knight to reach double-digit RBI this season
- Aryana Galioto became the third Fighting Knight to reach 20 stolen bases this season
 
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game 2):
- Starting pitcher Josey Sumpter hit a solo home run in the second inning to give Lynn a 1-0 lead
- Lynn scored three runs in the fourth inning
- Cameron Buzzell tripled and drove in Faith Miller to put the Fighting Knights up by two
- Taylor Scala drove in Buzzell with a single in the next at bat
- T. Scala then stole second and was later driven home on Simpson's single to make it a 4-0 game
- Relief pitcher Haley Fardanesh struck out the final batter of the game with two runners on to secure the shutout
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS (Game 2):
- Sumpter pitched 3.2 scoreless innings and now ranks tied for third in the SSC with six home runs this season
- Sumpter scored and drove in a run in each game of the doubleheader
- Miller went 2-for-2 with a run scored at the plate and pitched 2.1 scoreless innings
- Eliza Gonzalez went 3-for-3 to raise her season average to .300
- T. Scala scored her team-leading 28th run of the season while stealing her 28th base
- Buzzell notched her first triple and third extra-base hit of the season
- Simpson went 3-for-6 with two runs, an RBI and two steals over the two games
- The Fighting Knights tossed their seventh shutout of the season
- Lynn has won four of their last six games
- The Fighting Knights have stolen a school-record 114 bases this season

Lynn travels to Ft. Lauderdale for a three-game series this weekend against Nova Southeastern. The first game is scheduled for Friday, April 21 at 6:00 pm.
