FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - The Lynn softball team lost a hard-fought game on the road against Nova Southeastern, 5-3, Friday night. Four Fighting Knights recorded multiple hits but the team lost a late lead to drop to 21-26 on the season and 9-16 in the Sunshine State Conference.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Each team was held scoreless through three innings
- The Fighting Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Monique Poitevin stole home as part of a double steal with Destiny Torres
- NSU tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on an obstruction play
- Lynn scored two runs in the top of the fifth to go up 3-1
- Morgan Simpson scored on Eliza Gonzalez's double, as Gonzalez also scored via an NSU error
- In the sixth inning, the Sharks scored four of their five runs on four of their six hits in the game
- Relief pitcher Madison Prickett struck out the side to end the sixth
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
- Gonzalez went 2-for-4 with a double, run, and RBI to raise her season average to .318
- Gonzalez is batting .526 (10-for-19) over her last eight games
- Simpson went 2-for-4 to extend her hitting streak to five games
- Josey Sumpter went 2-for-3 to raise her batting average to .287
- Olivia Lovins went 2-for-3 for her eighth multi-hit game this season
- The Fighting Knights lineup posted 10+ hits for the sixth time this season and second consecutive game
