Lynn's comeback falls just short against Florida Southern

BOCA RATON, Fla. - Lynn scored five unanswered runs but their attempt to come back from a 7-0 deficit came up short against Florida Southern on Friday afternoon. David Judge collected two hits and added a sac fly in the 8-5 loss to their conference opponents. 

Lynn is 14-18-1 overall and 5-12 in the Sunshine State Conference.  

HOW IT HAPPENED: 
- The Mocs scored on a two-run double by Drew Cavanaugh, a two-run homer by Connor Berry, and an RBI single by Ahmad Fitts in a five-run top of the third inning 
- Florida Southern added another run in the fourth inning after D'Ante Starks doubled and later scored to go up 6-0 
- The Mocs took a 7-0 lead with an unearned run in the top of the fifth inning  
- David Judge singled, advanced to third on Deric LaMontagne's base hit and scored on Ryan Ford's ground out for Lynn's first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning 
- LaMontagne scored after Byron Murray was beaned with the bags full to make the score 7-2 
- Lynn loaded the bases with nobody out in the sixth but only managed one run on a Ford sac fly that scored Leon Paulino 
- Lynn once again had the bases loaded with no outs in the seventh inning 
- Murray scored on an error and AJ Orrico scored on a Judge sac fly to put the Fighting Knights within two runs, 7-5 
- The Mocs scored their eighth run on Berry's second home run of the game in the top of the ninth inning 

FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS: 
- Each of Lynn's 1-5 hitters in the lineup scored a run 
- Paulino extended his hitting streak to seven games 
- Ford had two runs batted in to bring his season total to 22 
- Relief pitcher Nathan Shane allowed one run over 4.2 innings 
- Relief pitcher Drew Clark pitched a scoreless ninth inning 
- Murray reached base twice to raise his season on-base percentage to .462 
- Judge went 2-for-4 to raise his season average to .355 

UP NEXT: 
Lynn and Florida Southern play the rubber game of their three-game series tomorrow, April 8, with a 1:00 pm first pitch scheduled at the Lynn baseball complex.
