MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – The fourth-ranked Lynn University women's tennis team dominated singles action en route to a 4-1 win over sixth-ranked West Alabama, Monday in the opening round of the 2023 NCAA South Region Championship.
The Fighting Knights are now 19-5 overall on the season and will face No. 1 ranked and top seed Barry tomorrow in the south region final at 10:00 am.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Fighting Knights dropped the first point of the match as the Tigers won both the second and third doubles flight
- Freshmen
Salma Djoubri and
Dolores Molina defeated the 11
th-ranked doubles tandem of Haina Franco and Irawan Deewajee, 6-4, in the top flight
- Djoubri and Molina picked up in singles where they left in doubles as they each won their individual matches
- Djoubri, ranked 12
th in the nation in singles, defeated 18
th-ranked Franco 6-1, 6-3 in the top flight
- She is now 15-4 in singles
- Molina took down Deewajee, 6-4, 6-4, in the sixth singles flight
- Molina is 10-4 in singles, including a 7-1 record in the sixth spot

Giorgia Pigato and sophomore
Zofia Podbiol helped close the match with singles wins
- Pigato defeated 60
th-ranked Heden Ly, 6-1, 6-3 in the third flight, while Podbiol downed Hardija Vidnere, 6-0, 6-2 in the fourth flight
- Pigato is 14-6 in singles, while Podbiol is 11-9
